Bitcoin Stuck in Indecision as Dollar Strength Limits Momentum
The recent trading sessions for Bitcoin have not been supportive of a clear directional move. The price has fluctuated within a narrow range, around 1.00%, without establishing a consistent trend. This lack of direction is leading to a growing sense of neutrality in the market.
One factor limiting Bitcoin's ability to regain momentum is the strength of alternative markets, such as the U.S. dollar. As long as the dollar remains well-supported, it may continue to reduce Bitcoin's relative appeal and make it more difficult for demand to return at a rapid pace.
Expectations point toward a restrictive central bank stance, with over 50% probability of another interest rate increase in October, according to CME Group estimates. This has led to higher yields on 10-year Treasury bonds, reaching levels not seen in decades. This, in turn, may make bonds an attractive alternative to Bitcoin for some investors.
The correlation coefficient between the U.S. dollar (DXY) and Bitcoin over the last 100 sessions remains around -0.44, indicating a moderate negative relationship between the two assets. A higher-rate environment tends to reduce appetite for risk assets like Bitcoin and increases the attractiveness of dollar-denominated assets.
The current backdrop of a more aggressive Federal Reserve continues to support demand for the U.S. dollar while limiting Bitcoin's ability to regain momentum. The buying pressure that dominated several weeks ago has yet to re-establish itself as the main force behind price action.
