Bitcoin Suffers Worst Q1 Loss Since 2018 Bear Market
Bitcoin has experienced its worst Q1 loss since the 2018 bear market, dropping 22.3% in value since the start of the year. According to CoinGlass data, the cryptocurrency began trading near $87,700 and has fallen to current levels around $68,000.
The losses match patterns from the 2018 bear market, when Bitcoin dropped 49.7% during the first three months. Analyst Daan Trades Crypto noted that Q1 volatility historically does not predict performance for the rest of the year.
Bitcoin has posted negative first-quarter returns in seven of the past 13 years. Recent losses include 11.8% in 2025 and 10.8% in 2020, though none approached the severity of the 2018 decline.
