Bitcoin's third quarter has been a dramatic turnaround for the cryptocurrency after a difficult first half of this year.

According to data from CoinGlass, Bitcoin gained roughly 43.5% during July-September, making it the second-strongest Q3 in the platform's dataset, behind only the explosive 80.41% gain recorded in 2017.

This comes after a two-quarter losing streak for Bitcoin, which lost 22.2% in Q1 and 14.09% in Q2.

The current quarter has even managed to edge out 2013, when Bitcoin gained 40.6% during Q3, surpassing it by roughly three percentage points.
