Bitcoin Surges Above $80,000 Amid Renewed Institutional Demand
Bitcoin's price has surged above $80,000 for the first time since May 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone in its recovery. The cryptocurrency has gained approximately 38% from its lows in late June and early July 2026 when it briefly fell below $58,000.
The rally is attributed to renewed institutional demand and shifting expectations around U.S. monetary and fiscal policy. The U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs attracted about $1.9 billion last week, their strongest weekly inflow since October 2025, providing fresh buying pressure as the broader crypto market recovered.
U.S. Treasury's decision to double its planned purchases of longer-dated government bonds through early November 2026 has also contributed to the rally. This move is expected to help contain longer-term borrowing costs and support risk assets.
The latest price surge above $80,000 came after the Treasury indicated it could use its nearly $1 trillion General Account to fund the buybacks, adding to expectations of improved liquidity conditions. Investors are now turning their attention to the U.S. inflation outlook with the Federal Reserve's preferred PCE price index due this week.
