Bitcoin Surges Above $80,000 as Crypto Market Rallies on Policy and Regulatory Tailwinds
The August crypto market saw a significant surge in prices, driven by various factors. Early in the month, the market experienced a brief consolidation phase due to uncertainty over Federal Reserve interest rate policy and traditional risk asset pullbacks. However, from mid-to-late August, the market rallied, with Bitcoin leading the charge.
Bitcoin broke through the $80,000 mark, recording one of its strongest August performances in recent years. Its price surge was approximately 26% over the month. The cryptocurrency's market dominance rose to around 57-59%, solidifying its position as a safe-haven and institutional asset.
Ethereum also rebounded strongly, with record weekly net inflows into spot ETFs driving up its price. Solana surged over 40% in a single month, while BNB Chain successfully activated the 'Pasteur' hard fork upgrade, nearly doubling testnet TPS. Ripple and Arbitrum (ARB) also experienced significant price increases.
The DeFi market rally returned, with HYPE surging to new highs, gaining over 60% cumulatively in August. UNI rose over 30% cumulatively, breaking above $5.5 to reach a new high since January this year. AAVE briefly crossed $140, also touching its January high.
