Bitcoin Surges Past $69,500, Forcing $2.7 Billion in Short Liquidations
Bitcoin's price surged by 8% on August 19, reaching nearly $70,000. This sudden increase led to the liquidation of short positions worth a staggering $2.7 billion within just 24 hours.
This marked the largest wave of forced liquidations since 2021 and accounted for approximately 92% of the total $3 billion in liquidated positions.
Experts attribute this rally to multiple positive factors, including the U.S. Treasury's plan to more than double its government debt buybacks, lower long-term interest rates, and capital repatriation.
Adam McCarthy from LO:TECH stated that the U.S. Treasury's announcement 'clearly sparked a surge in investor confidence in risk assets like Bitcoin.'
