Bitcoin Whales Stir: Dormant Wallets Move $86M Amid Market Rally
A group of Bitcoin wallets that had been dormant since 2014 recently moved $86 million in BTC. The wallets, which accounted for 92.4% of the total moved, transferred 1,214.42 BTC, valued at approximately $86 million, to newer address types. This movement occurred as Bitcoin traded near a weekly high of $72,400.
According to btcparser.com data cited by Bitcoin.com, 28 dormant wallets transferred a combined 1,314.41 BTC worth around $94.03 million within a 24-hour period. The majority of these transactions involved sending 50 BTC from legacy P2PKH addresses to newer P2WPKH addresses.
The receiving addresses have not been linked to any known exchanges by Arkham Intelligence's public labels, which suggests that the holders may be reorganizing their self-custodied funds or adopting a new wallet setup. However, this does not necessarily imply an intention to sell the BTC.
