Bitcoin Surges Past $75,000 Amid Treasury Buyback Rally
Cryptocurrency prices surged on August 21 as Bitcoin briefly climbed above $75,000 during Asian trade. This price increase followed a rally that began after the US Treasury announced an expansion of its buybacks of longer-dated government debt.
The move helped push Treasury yields lower and improve liquidity conditions for riskier assets, including cryptocurrencies. According to foreign media, this improvement in market conditions contributed to the rise in Bitcoin's price.
However, analysts have raised concerns about forced short covering accounting for a significant portion of the initial surge. It is reported that more than $3 billion in crypto short positions were liquidated during the rally.
