Bitcoin Surges Past $79K Amid Iran Peace Signals, Crypto Bill Progress
Bitcoin surged past $79,000 on Monday after weeks of downward pressure, gaining approximately 3% and marking a notable recovery. The rally was fueled by indications from President Trump regarding a potential resolution to the US-Iran conflict, as well as advancements in the Clarity Act, a significant cryptocurrency regulatory framework progressing through the United States Senate.
The Trump administration's willingness to negotiate with Iran triggered oil price declines, providing a boost to risk-oriented assets like cryptocurrency. The Clarity Act has been revised to incorporate ethics requirements endorsed by Trump, which includes restrictions on federally elected officials and their family members. Senator Cynthia Lummis revealed that the bill now accommodates over 120 Democratic requests.
Market analyst Ted Pillows noted that Bitcoin is approaching a critical price threshold, with 'a lot of sell orders placed around the $80,000-$83,000 range.' He emphasized that if Bitcoin penetrates above this zone, 'another leg up could happen, and the cycle bottom will be confirmed.'
The Federal Reserve's policy meeting on Wednesday will take center stage, with a 92.7% probability of a 25-basis-point rate increase. Trading firm QCP Capital observed that the rate increase has been substantially priced into markets, but cautioned that sustained elevated oil prices might maintain inflation at higher levels.
