Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000 Amid US Treasury's Monetary Policy Shift

Bitcoin's recent surge past $80,000 has some market observers attributing it to the US Treasury's decision to double its purchases of long-dated bonds. According to Anthony Pompliano, CEO of Professional Capital Management, this move is a sign that the US government will continue to print money, which in turn will drive up Bitcoin's price.

Pompliano believes that as long as the Treasury continues to print money, Bitcoin will keep going up. He frames this argument within what he calls the 'age of abundance,' where artificial intelligence generates an abundance of intelligence and government policy generates an abundance of dollars.

In this environment, Pompliano argues that scarcity becomes a premium, and Bitcoin's hard cap of 21 million coins makes it one of the scarcest assets in the world. He has held this position for years and maintains a $1 million long-term price target for Bitcoin as a direct consequence of his thesis.

However, not all market observers are convinced by the current move. Cryptocurrency analyst Benjamin Cowen noted that Bitcoin's latest spike has not been matched by strong whale activity, suggesting the rally may lack the depth of buying that characterized previous turning points.
