Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000 as US Dollar Concerns Grow

Bitcoin's price surged past $80,000 on Tuesday as investors sought safer assets due to concerns over the strength of the US dollar. The jump marked a more than three-month high for the cryptocurrency.

The rise came after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's efforts to calm the bond market, which some analysts saw as a sign that policymakers may have a lower tolerance for further increases in long-end yields.

Bitcoin has risen 16% since US President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass a bill clarifying cryptocurrency regulations. The digital asset is up 28% so far this month, its biggest gain since November 2024.

Geoff Kendrick, global head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered, said the Treasury announcement 'exactly the type of thing bitcoin loves', as it allows investors to avoid intervention in the bond market. Tim Sun, senior researcher at HashKey Group, noted that Bessent's messaging has reinforced the view that policymakers may have a lower tolerance for further increases in long-end yields.

As a result, some analysts predict that Bitcoin could rise towards $95,000-$100,000 if it sustains its current momentum. However, others caution that investors should be prepared for market volatility.
