Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000, Triggers Short Squeeze Fears
Bitcoin has broken through $80,000, sparking market volatility and putting pressure on companies with high short-interest ratios. S3 Partners' data shows that MicroStrategy (MSTR), Strive (ASST), and Coinbase (COIN) are at risk of a short squeeze due to their high short-interest levels.
The main reason for this is the shift in hedging strategies, as investors tend to short stock holdings rather than ETFs. This has led to a concentration of capital on shorting stocks with BTC on their balance sheets, such as MicroStrategy and Strive, or major exchanges like Coinbase.
Strive (ASST.US) is particularly volatile, having risen 33.9% over the past month and 210% over the past six months. With a high short-interest ratio of approximately 26%, it's highly likely to become a prime target for short squeezes if BTC rebounds again.
