Bitcoin Surges Past $85,000 as Regulators Ease Uncertainty
Bitcoin has reached its highest level since January, surpassing $85,000 after US financial regulators eased investor uncertainty. The price jumped to $84,671.80 according to Coin Metrics, with earlier highs of $85,229.44 reported by Bloomberg.
The rally was fueled by short covering and broader risk appetite, with more than $300 million in short Bitcoin positions liquidated over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGlass.
Regulatory moves by key US financial regulators, including the SEC's temporary path for platforms to let people trade tokenized stocks, have reduced perceived regulatory uncertainty. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has also proposed a set of crypto market rules to the White House for review.
Other cryptocurrencies followed suit, with Ether rising 4.3%, Binance Coin up 5.53%, and XRP increasing 8.12%. However, traders remain cautious about the long-term prospects for Bitcoin's price, citing macroeconomic conditions as a potential hurdle to further gains.
