Bitcoin Surges Past $87,000 as US Jobs Data Disappoints
The past week saw a significant shift in crypto market momentum. Bitcoin surged above $87,000 after weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data. The unemployment rate reached 4.2% and nonfarm payrolls rose by just 29,000, well below expectations of 84,000 to 90,000.
Ripple moved closer to launching native lending infrastructure on the XRP Ledger with the introduction of closed-ended lending vaults and cash-basis accounting in an amendment for validator voting. Shiba Inu recorded its best month of 2026 with a 13.5% gain.
Bitcoin had already climbed above $85,000 on September 30 after softer-than-expected inflation data pushed rate-hike odds lower. The Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index rose 3.4% year over year in August, below the 3.7% expected by analysts.
