Bitcoin Surges to 8-Month High, Long-Term Holders Fuel Market Gains
Bitcoin's price has surged, reaching $86,436.31, marking a 2.1% increase over the past 24 hours and a 3.4% gain over the week. This represents its highest weekly close in over eight months. The cryptocurrency is now up nearly 50% over the past three months. Other major assets, including Ethereum, XRP, and BNB, have also seen gains, with Ethereum rising 1.4% to $2,727.32, XRP increasing 2.1% to $1.52, and BNB adding 2.2% to $796.82.
One reason behind the rise in prices is the tightening supply of Bitcoin. Data shows that long-term holders are holding onto their coins, with minimal selling even during periods of volatility. This reduces the amount of supply available to the market. Michaël van de Poppe noted that many traders expected a deep correction similar to past cycles, but the upside volatility this cycle has been smaller, so the downside needs to be smaller too.
Van de Poppe referred to this cycle as a different one, which could later be referred to as the 'Crypto' cycle, with a 'dot-com style chart'. This implies a unique trajectory for the market, one that may not follow traditional patterns. The fact that long-term holders have not been pushed into losses for the first time in over a decade is also a significant factor in the current market dynamics.
