Bitcoin Surges to $85K on Regulatory Relief and Short Covering
Bitcoin's price surged to an eight-month high of $85,248 on Monday, driven by regulatory relief and short covering. The move marked a significant shift from the recent uncertainty caused by the Senate's failure to advance the CLARITY Act and the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike.
The SEC granted temporary 'Innovation Exemption' relief to certain tokenized securities venues, allowing eligible venues to trade on-chain through permissioned automated market makers. This decision provided a fresh regulatory narrative as the market digested the Fed's quarter-point rate increase to 3.75%-4.00%.
The rally was amplified by derivatives positioning, with the liquidation of $262.3 million in short positions in one hour on CoinGlass data. Total crypto liquidations reached $271.83 million, with Bitcoin accounting for $431.86 million of the total short liquidations.
Bitcoin's move through the $80,000-$83,000 area reflects both improving spot sentiment and a derivatives-driven squeeze. The reclaiming of the True Market Mean at $76,660 also puts the trend in focus, with active investors moving from an aggregate unrealized-loss position toward profit as price rises above their cost basis.
