Bitcoin Surges to New All-Time High of $86k Amid Diverging Institutional Sentiment
Bitcoin has reached an all-time high of $86k, marking a 10% weekly gain since last Sunday's close. The surge in price is being led by spot and perpetual buyers, which is unusual given that leverage and profit-taking typically rise alongside the price.
The divergence between spot and futures buying is also highlighted by Bitcoin ETF flows, which have been trending lower over the past six months. This suggests that institutional positioning may be weakening despite the strong price action.
Looking at the technicals, the 4h chart shows BTC testing the upper Bollinger resistance band at $85,136. The RSI(14) is sitting in overbought territory at 85.26, while the MACD has confirmed a golden cross, indicating a probable healthy retracement towards the EMA50 support at $79,852 before continuation higher.
The EMA200, currently at $75,846, serves as a deeper structural floor for the price action. With Bitcoin's price testing resistance levels and showing signs of overbought conditions, investors should be cautious about potential pullbacks in the near term.
