Bitcoin Surges to New Highs as Q3 2026 Sees 42.9% Rally
Bitcoin's third quarter of 2026 was its strongest in nearly a decade, as the cryptocurrency surged 42.9% to reach prices between $83,000 and $86,000 by the end of September.
This outpaced traditional assets like gold, which rose about 8.7% over the same period, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes, each of which added around 2%.
A significant portion of the demand for Bitcoin came through US spot ETFs, with inflows totaling approximately $6.3 billion during the quarter. Strategy, a company formerly known for its software business but now primarily recognized for its large Bitcoin holdings, also resumed purchases and increased its holdings to around 847,666 BTC.
The rally was likely influenced by several macroeconomic developments, including Treasury announcements about debt repurchases in mid-August and positive shifts in PCE inflation readings, which lowered the odds of a Fed rate hike. However, long-term holders who bought at lower prices may see this range as an opportunity to take profits, and elevated Treasury yields are another potential pressure point.
