Bitcoin Surges to Strongest August in Nine Years Amid Q3 Rebound
Bitcoin's third-quarter return has exceeded expectations after rebounding from a low of around $63,000 and briefly touching $80,000. This marks the strongest August performance for Bitcoin in nine years.
The asset's Q3 gain currently stands at approximately 32.48%, significantly surpassing its average quarterly return of 7.94%. The recovery comes after consecutive losses in Q1 and Q2, amounting to 22.2% and 14.09% respectively.
Bitcoin entered August after months of weakness, falling towards $58,000 in July before recovering above $60,000 and accelerating later in the month. The asset's spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have attracted around $1.92 billion during the five trading sessions through Aug 21, marking their strongest weekly inflow since October 2025.
Derivatives activity also intensified during the rally, with about $9.71 billion in cryptocurrency liquidations across two weeks. Short positions accounted for roughly $6.55 billion, while long liquidations reached around $3.16 billion. This imbalance suggests that bearish traders absorbed most forced closures during the rally.
