Ireland Excludes Crypto from New Tax-Advantaged Investment Accounts
Ireland is planning to introduce new tax-advantaged investment accounts that will offer benefits for stocks, bonds, and ETFs. However, crypto assets and derivatives will be excluded from the preferential structure due to their classification as 'highly complex and risky' products.
The Department of Finance published a roadmap outlining the features of the new accounts, which will allow investments in stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds, and other investment funds. The accounts are expected to become available to Irish residents next year, although no specific launch date has been set.
The exclusion of crypto assets from the framework is consistent with regulators' ongoing cautious approach to digital assets. Ireland has taken a more active role in overseeing the crypto sector, including proposed reforms to strengthen Anti-Money Laundering requirements.
