Bitcoin Surges Toward $80,000 as Investors Flock to Debasement-Resistant Assets

Bitcoin's price continued to rise on Thursday, pushing towards the $80,000 level as investors sought assets resistant to currency debasement. The cryptocurrency has been steadily gaining value since last week, with traders awaiting confirmation of a breakout above this level.

Elevated US inflation and government debt exceeding $40 trillion are driving demand for scarce assets like gold and Bitcoin. According to Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas, institutional investors have turned to these assets in response to expectations that money or other financial assets will lose value.

Data shared by Balchunas showed that gold and Bitcoin ETFs attracted combined inflows of over $7 billion last week, marking the largest five-day inflow on record. This surge was primarily driven by debasement trades, which are drawing capital away from artificial intelligence stocks.
