Bitcoin Tests Key Resistance at $87,200 as Market Awaits Breakout Decision
Bitcoin is at a critical juncture as it approaches a major resistance level near $87,200. The cryptocurrency’s ability to surpass this threshold will determine whether its recent rebound continues or stalls. Analysts are closely watching the $86,984 to $87,300 range, where previous highs and intraday upper wicks have created a strong resistance zone.
The latest test of this resistance follows a notable move above $87,000 after the release of U.S. jobs data on October 5. The data showed a slower-than-expected job growth of 29,000 in September, with the unemployment rate rising to 4.2%. Bitcoin held onto gains below $87,000 but has since faced selling pressure around the $87,000 mark.
Price action reveals a pattern of repeated failed breakouts in the $87,000 to $87,200 range. After rising from the low $82,000s in late September to around $87,200, Bitcoin fell back to $82,700 before rebounding. However, attempts to regain $87,000 were quickly met with resistance, pushing the price back to the $84,000 to $84,500 range.
Despite these challenges, the recent pullback low was higher than the low on September 28, which some analysts interpret as a positive short-term signal. Derivatives market sentiment remains mildly bullish, with positive funding rates on Binance, OKX, and Hyperliquid indicating bullish demand. However, the funding rates have not surged to excessive levels, suggesting there is still room for a breakout in a less crowded environment.
