Bitcoin Trades Near $80,000 Amid Corporate Demand and Regulatory Focus
Bitcoin traded near $80,000 on Sunday as investors weighed continued corporate demand and US crypto policy. The cryptocurrency has been supported by institutional buying, particularly from Strategy, which has added to its holdings of BTC this year.
Strategy raised $602.8 million through common-stock sales between August 24 and August 30, using $369.7 million to buy 4,603 bitcoin. This lifted the company's holdings to 845,050 BTC as of August 30. Strategy has issued $20.9 billion in common and preferred equity this year, making it one of the largest US issuers.
Regulatory policy is also gaining attention, with a Senate vote on the CLARITY Act approaching on September 15. The legislation would establish a federal market structure for digital assets and divide oversight between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission.
