Bitcoin Transfer Valuations Diverge by Up to Sixfold, BIS Study Finds
A recent working paper from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) highlights the challenges of accurately estimating the value of Bitcoin transactions. According to the study, estimates can vary by as much as sixfold due to differences in transaction classification and aggregation methods.
The researchers analyzed 13 million active smart contracts and approximately 1.4 million tokens, finding that the number of token issuances is surging rapidly, making it increasingly difficult to identify economically significant activities.
Moreover, cross-chain empirical analysis showed that stablecoin-related activity varies significantly across different networks. On Ethereum, stablecoins interact primarily with smart contracts, while on Tron, they exist largely as entities independent of smart contracts.
