Bitcoin Tumbles Amid Energy Shock and Bond Sell-Off
Bitcoin's price plummeted to $76,676.07 on September 10 as global energy markets continued to surge. The sudden drop in BTC value coincided with rising oil prices and a sell-off in bonds, which pushed traders towards another Federal Reserve interest rate hike.
The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.93%, its highest level in 19 years, while the 30-year bond yield reached 5.35%. This marked a significant increase from earlier this year and put pressure on investors to reassess their expectations for inflation and monetary policy.
Joseph Brusuelas, principal and chief economist at RSM US LLP, noted that current diesel prices are equivalent to crude trading near $207 a barrel. He warned that higher energy costs could begin feeding through wholesale prices and core inflation during September, strengthening the case for a Fed rate hike at its upcoming meeting.
