Bitcoin Volatility Hits Two-Year Low: Market on Brink of Dramatic Shift
CryptoQuant's Axel Adler Jr. has observed that Bitcoin's volatility has dropped to its lowest level in nearly two years, suggesting that the market may be on the cusp of a significant shift.
According to ChainCatcher, Adler notes that the Bollinger Bands' width is currently around 3.8% to 3.9%, which is near its lowest point over the past two years. In July, this figure was in the double digits.
The narrowing of the Bollinger Bands typically indicates that the market is entering a compression phase before a volatility expansion, but Adler emphasizes that this indicator alone cannot predict the direction of the next trend.
Adler also points out that Bitcoin's ADX index has dropped to 11, which is near its lowest point in recent history and significantly below the 25 threshold used to confirm trends. The TrendActive indicator remains off, and both bullish and bearish signals are absent. However, Adler notes that a new trend may emerge if the Bollinger Bands' width expands from its current compressed state and the ADX index breaks above 25.
Ultimately, Adler concludes that Bitcoin is still in a consolidation phase, with low volatility and trend strength, making short-term price movements uncertain. The current market structure increases the likelihood of significant price swings, but it remains unclear whether prices will break out upwards or downwards.
