Bitcoin vs. Ethereum: The High-Stakes Battle for All-Time Records
Bitcoin and Ethereum are vying to reclaim their all-time highs, but the gap each coin must close tells different stories about which one gets there first. As of September 27, Bitcoin is trading at around $84,900, roughly 33% below its all-time high of $126,080 set in October 2025. To reclaim that record, it needs to climb about 49%. In contrast, Ethereum is priced near $2,710, about 45% below its peak of $4,950 in August 2025. To reach its previous high, Ethereum needs a significant gain of around 83%.
Bitcoin has been recovering faster this year, down only 4% in 2026 compared to Ethereum's 9% drop. However, Ethereum has surged ahead recently, gaining around 72% over the past three months compared to Bitcoin's 42%. This rapid rise raises questions about whether Ethereum can offset its larger distance to cover.
The outcome of this race hinges on maintaining current speeds. If Ethereum slows down, it will face a tougher climb, needing to cover the larger 83% distance. Meanwhile, Bitcoin benefits from strong demand and has weathered the crypto winter better than Ethereum, leaving it less distance to recover.
