Bitcoin Wallet Shipping Labels Become Security Risk

The shipping label on your Bitcoin wallet could be its biggest vulnerability.

When buying a hardware wallet, you typically provide personal information such as your name and address to receive the device. This data is often stored by shipping providers, which can lead to security risks if compromised.

Trezor recently disclosed that approximately 67,000 US customers were affected by a breach at its shipping provider, ShipMonk, between 2019 and 2021. The leaked information included contact and delivery details but no financial data was stolen or misappropriated.

This raises concerns about the potential for identity theft and phishing attacks using this sensitive information. Hardware wallets protect private keys, but a thief who obtains recovery words can bypass these protections.
