Bitcoin Wallet Unseen Since 2011 Suddenly Moves $538,000
A significant Bitcoin wallet has been active for the first time in over 15 years. The wallet, which held 8.54 BTC since June 13, 2011, when the price of Bitcoin was around $14, has moved its entire balance in a single transaction on August 16.
The transfer is valued at approximately $538,000 and represents an estimated 461,981% gain if sold, compared to the original purchase price. The wallet's address begins with '1Emi' and has not been publicly attributed, leaving the owner's identity and reason for moving the funds unknown.
Galaxy Research reported that the balance was first received on June 13, 2011, and remained dormant until August 16, when it moved to a new address. The transfer is notable because many coins from Bitcoin's early years are presumed inaccessible after owners lost private keys or abandoned wallets.
