Bitcoin Whale Profits Hit Record High Amid Market Volatility

Bitcoin's short-term holder whales are sitting on unprecedented profits of $9.07 billion, according to data from CryptoQuant. This record-high unrealized profit marks a significant milestone since the analytics firm began tracking whale profitability in 2016.

The breakeven levels for these short-term holders currently sit near $69,000, which is uncomfortably close to the current spot price of Bitcoin. As a result, even minor price fluctuations could trigger aggressive selling from this cohort.

CryptoQuant warns that the sensitivity is striking, and a relatively small downturn in prices could lead to outsized profit-taking from short-term holder whales.

In addition to the risk posed by short-term holders, exchange reserves are also growing. Binance's BTC reserves reached 691,658 on September 2, their highest level since November 2024.
