Bitcoin Whale Stirs After 12-Year Slumber
A Bitcoin whale has moved 500 BTC after more than 12 years of inactivity. The transfer was flagged by blockchain trackers Whale Alert and Lookonchain, which reported that the coins had been held in a dormant wallet since at least 2010.
The 500 BTC was last active during a time when its value was around $500,000. At present, there is no evidence to suggest that the coins have been deposited onto an exchange or sold.
The movement of the Bitcoin highlights one of the fundamental characteristics of the network: transparency. Even after more than a decade without activity, the transfer of 500 BTC was publicly recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain and identified through on-chain monitoring.
