Bitcoin Whales Continue Accumulating as Exchange Reserves Plummet
A significant Bitcoin whale withdrawal has occurred, adding to evidence of large holder accumulation in the market. According to Whale Alert, a previously unknown wallet withdrew 2,782 BTC from Bitstamp, worth approximately $177 million.
This transfer is notable because it removes those coins from immediately accessible exchange liquidity, suggesting that the whale may be holding onto them for longer-term appreciation rather than selling or trading them in the near future.
Meanwhile, large holders have been accumulating tens of thousands of BTC over the past two months, with wallets holding more than 100 BTC adding approximately 54,400 BTC between June 14 and August 14. In contrast, smaller investors moved in the opposite direction, selling around 27,400 BTC during the same period.
The concentration of Bitcoin among the largest addresses has remained stable, with the top 10 holders controlling about 5.88% of supply as of August 18. Exchange reserves have fallen to roughly 2.72 million BTC, close to multi-year lows.
