Bitcoin Whales Sit on Record $9B Unrealized Gains as Price Volatility Looms
New data from CryptoQuant shows that Bitcoin's short-term holder whales are sitting on unprecedented unrealized profits of $9.07 billion, a figure that is sensitive to small price fluctuations.
This reading is the largest since CryptoQuant began tracking whale profitability in 2016 and is particularly concerning given the breakeven point for these investors currently sits near $69,000.
CryptoQuant warns that further Bitcoin price downside may induce selling from these whales, who are historically known to be speculative and sensitive to smaller market shifts.
The data also shows growing inflows to exchanges since May, with Binance reserves reaching 691,658 BTC on September 2, the highest figure since November 2024.
