Bitcoin's $74K Relief Rally Quickly Erased Amid Persistent Bear Market Conditions
Bitcoin's brief rally to $74,000 on Thursday was short-lived, with prices pulling back below $71,000 by Friday morning. Analysts characterize this move as a temporary relief rally within a sustained bear market environment.
CryptoQuant's Bull Score Index, which measures overall Bitcoin market health using a combination of fundamental and technical indicators, remains at 10 out of 100. The firm describes this reading as 'deep in bearish territory', indicating that the recent price move is likely just a relief rally, not the start of a new bull phase.
Nick Ruck, director of LVRG Research, attributes the rally to renewed risk appetite and Bitcoin ETF inflows, but notes that prices quickly faced headwinds with persistent macro uncertainties and fading momentum. He cites anticipated weakness in February nonfarm payrolls as a near-term macro risk that leaves crypto vulnerable to further downside.
CryptoQuant also notes that a positive Coinbase Premium has signaled renewed buying interest from U.S.-based investors, with spot demand from U.S. buyers shifting from contraction to growth. Selling pressure from both short-term traders and long-term holders has eased, following a period when unrealized losses reached levels last seen in July 2022.
Analysts at SwissBlock observe that 'momentum is flashing a critical shift', describing the current setup as an exit from peak negative momentum, which often precedes a regime change. However, CryptoQuant maintains that 'fundamental and technical indicators still point to a bear market environment', with the Bull Score Index not recovering meaningfully.
