Bitcoin's $80K Breakout Signals New Market Regime

Bitcoin's recent breakout above $80,000 has led some to believe that the market has shifted into a new regime. According to GSR Managing Director Andy Baehr, this move may represent more than just another short-lived crypto rally.

The combination of returning ETF demand, improving liquidity, and aggressive short liquidations is evidence that the market structure has become more supportive. Baehr pointed out that institutional demand has changed sharply, with digital-asset investment products having suffered $8 billion in withdrawals over eight consecutive weeks before flows reversed.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted almost $2 billion over five trading days, according to figures cited by Baehr. Weekly inflows approached $1.9 billion, with BlackRock's IBIT capturing $209 million of a $338 million daily inflow as BTC traded above $80,000.

The rally was also amplified by bearish positioning, with roughly $1.06 billion in short positions liquidated in a single day. This forced traders betting against Bitcoin to buy back into the rising market.
