Bitcoin's August Rally Sets Record High Retail Deposits on Gate.io
Bitcoin's August rally was more than just a blip on the radar. The cryptocurrency surged by nearly 25% in August, from around $64,000 to $80,000, and retail deposits on Gate.io hit record highs during this time.
The hourly inflows peaked at $11.33 million on August 29, the highest single-hour figure recorded on the platform so far this year. A CryptoQuant analysis counted more than 11 significant spikes in retail deposit volume on Gate.io between August 23 and August 30 alone.
However, market observers note that a spike in deposits doesn't necessarily translate to sell pressure. With Gate.io handling crypto, stocks, and commodities, it's possible that capital is flowing in for new trades or rotating between asset classes.
The breakout in Bitcoin's price can be attributed to several factors. August has historically been an unkind month for the cryptocurrency, but this year was different. The last time Bitcoin finished the month in the green was in 2021.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in an estimated $2 to $3 billion during the month, providing a steady bid underneath the market. Additionally, short liquidations also contributed to the breakout.
