Bitcoin's Breakout Runs Unite Top Altcoins in Synchronized Surge
Bitcoin's recent price surge was not isolated to just the leading cryptocurrency. Nineteen of the top 20 altcoins by liquidity also rose significantly between August 18 and 25, with many outpacing Bitcoin's 21.4% gain.
The rally was driven by aggressive spot buying and short covering, rather than leveraged positioning. Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States played a key role, recording net inflows of $2.57 billion over seven consecutive positive sessions.
Zcash led gains with a 50.9% surge, followed closely by Aave and XRP, which rose 44.7% and 43.3%, respectively. Ethereum also saw significant growth, rising 27.4% and improving its ratio against Bitcoin on a sustained basis for the first time since spring.
Bitfinex identifies three potential scenarios for the next two weeks: acceptance above the May ceiling, consolidation between $77,100 and $81,000, or a squeeze reversal if the price loses $76,657. The continuation of positive ETF flows and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at Jackson Hole will be key determining factors.
