Bitcoin's Corporate Saviors Sell Off Holdings Amid AI Pivot
The corporate experiment with Bitcoin as a savings account is rapidly unwinding. Public companies that bought large amounts of Bitcoin are now selling off their holdings and redirecting resources to artificial intelligence infrastructure. This pivot comes as the price of Bitcoin has fallen by roughly 50% from its peak of around $126,000 in October 2025.
MicroStrategy, a company formerly known as Strategy, is still holding over 840,000 BTC despite authorizing further sales of approximately 3,620 BTC. Other companies are facing more dire circumstances: Satsuma Technology liquidated its entire 668 BTC stash, triggering delisting from the London Stock Exchange, while Sequans Communications sold 1,025 BTC and almost 80% of its remaining holdings to repay convertible debt.
Many firms are redirecting resources toward AI data centers due to their existing infrastructure, which is similar to what's required for Bitcoin mining. However, investors seem to view these pivots as desperation moves rather than strategic opportunities.
