Bitcoin's Data-Restriction Proposal Falls Short Amid Miner Skepticism
The Reduced Data Temporary Softfork, BIP-110, has failed to gain broad miner support, sitting at just 2.6% of miner signaling despite its mandatory signaling window opening today at block 961,632.
BIP-110 aims to impose consensus restrictions on Bitcoin transactions for one year, capping most new output scripts at 34 bytes and OP_RETURN at 83 bytes.
Opposition to the proposal has been vocal, with Blockstream CEO Adam Back and Casa's Jameson Lopp criticizing its design.
The mandatory signaling window will reject any block that doesn't signal support for BIP-110, but it appears unlikely to reach the 55% share needed for voluntary lock-in.
