Bitcoin's Dominance Over Stocks Fades as S&P 500 Hits New High
Bitcoin's dominance over the stock market may be waning as the S&P 500 has recently surpassed its all-time high, while Bitcoin remains in a drawdown. The S&P 500-to-Bitcoin ratio, which measures how much Bitcoin is needed to buy one unit of the S&P 500, has broken above its 200-week moving average for the first time on record.
This shift could indicate that Bitcoin's decade-long outperformance over stocks may be coming to an end. The S&P 500-to-Bitcoin ratio has been rising since June, and Bitcoin's price has struggled to break past $65,000 since the beginning of the month, hitting a 52-week low of around $57,700 in July.
Analysts such as Charles Edwards point out that this shift may be part of a broader trend, with oil prices also declining. Edwards noted that 'oil rejected, breaking down' while 'stocks breaking up.'
