Bitcoin's First Annual Difficulty Drop Looms
The Bitcoin network is on track for an unprecedented event in its 17-year history. According to current statistics, the annual mining difficulty is expected to decline for the first time ever. Analyst PlanB reports that the difficulty has fallen from 148.3 trillion at the end of last year to 126.2 trillion.
However, it's essential to note that this decline is not yet a certainty and will be influenced by five more automatic adjustment rounds before Dec. 31. If the BTC price recovers or mining equipment comes back online, difficulty could still close the year above its 2025 level.
The industry is currently experiencing a unique economic paradox: traditional mining is generating losses, mining stocks are rising due to AI adoption, and bullish signals for Bitcoin's price are emerging across the market.
