Bitcoin's Fresh Capital and Options Market Dynamics
Bitcoin's recent rally above $81,000 has been met with fresh capital from various parts of the market, but options traders remain cautious near the breakout zone. The cryptocurrency accelerated its ascent after Federal Reserve Gov. Christopher Waller said he could support keeping interest rates unchanged this month if August inflation continues to cool. This eased rate fears and contributed to a decline in Treasury yields.
The market-implied odds of a September rate increase decreased from about 65% to roughly 50% following Waller's comments. The broader crypto market also saw a rally, with Ethereum, XRP, and Solana gaining more than 5%, while Zcash and Cardano climbed over 10%. US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $730.9 million on Thursday, their largest daily inflow since January.
However, options traders remain subdued near the breakout zone. About 29,600 Bitcoin options worth $2.39 billion expired Friday, carrying a put-call ratio of 0.65 and a maximum pain level of $73,000. The concentration sits directly below another major threshold, with CryptoQuant's 365-day moving average near $82,300.
