Bitcoin's Latest Rally Sparks Debate Over New Cycle of Highs
Analysts are divided over whether Bitcoin has entered a new cycle of highs following its recent surge. The cryptocurrency broke through significant resistance levels, reaching $79,200 on Friday morning before retreating to around $77,500. According to Mati Greenspan, former senior analyst at eToro and founder of Quantum Economics, the move has characteristics typical of reversals. 'It's generally how funds look,' he said. Greenspan noted that investors who had maintained orders expecting Bitcoin to return to $40,000 are now reassessing their strategies and fear missing out on the rally.
While some analysts see signs of a new trend, others caution that the recent price action may be driven by short squeezes rather than genuine buying interest. Jason Fernandes, market analyst and co-founder of AdLunam, believes it's too early to call the current move the end of the bear market. 'Without sustained entries in Bitcoin ETFs at sight and clearer signs of monetary easing, there is a risk that BTC will lose steam as it approaches higher resistance levels,' he said.
Tobias Bauer, co-founder of TBV, observed that Binance traded $1.26 billion in Bitcoin futures in just 60 seconds, with trading volumes 361 times higher than usual. This has led to concerns about over-leveraging and the potential for rapid price movements. If the market continues to rise, remaining short positions may be forced to unwind, while longs using leverage could also be liquidated quickly.
