Bitcoin's Open Interest Dumps Ahead of $87,000 Target

Bitcoin's momentum continues to wane as it approaches the $87,000 mark. The cryptocurrency's open interest has declined across major exchanges, signaling a loss in volatility balance.

Data from Binance shows a 6% drop in open interest over the past 30 days, which FundingVest describes as a 'loss in the volatility balance sustained over the past 30 days.'

Deribit and Gate.io also saw open interest fall by 15%, pointing to position unwinding and weaker volume. This trend is similar to previous local tops, where contraction in open interest often marks distribution.

FundingVest compared the current setup with earlier periods, noting that the 30-day open interest trend matches patterns from January 2026 and May 2026, both of which saw Bitcoin pull back by approximately $10,000.
