Bitcoin's Price Plunge Sparks Fears of Permanent Decline

Bitcoin's price has dropped more than 40% since its peak in early October 2025, leaving investors worried about its future. Despite this decline, some argue that Bitcoin might be 'dead' due to various reasons. However, history suggests that the coin will recover eventually, but there's no guarantee.

One concern is the 'one buyer' problem, where Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) holds a significant amount of Bitcoins, which could lead to a decrease in value if they stop purchasing or start selling. However, this concern is overstated, as Strategy's demand accounts for only 7% to 9% of net Bitcoin inflows.

Another argument is that Bitcoin is missing out on the market's gains, with the SPDR S&P 500 ETF rallying to all-time highs while Bitcoin sank. This decoupling signals capital disfavoring Bitcoin due to better risk-reward elsewhere. While past periods of disconnection have resolved themselves, it remains a bearish sign.

The rise of competing stores of value with privacy features, such as Zcash, is also seen as a threat to Bitcoin's survival. However, Zcash's market cap is less than 1% of Bitcoin's, and its adoption curve has not approached Bitcoin's. Most investors recognize that private stores of value and non-private ones can coexist within a well-balanced portfolio.
