Bitcoin's Quantum Computing Threat: A Risk or a Reality?
Bitcoin's (BTC) potential long-term threat from quantum computing has been a topic of discussion among experts. According to VanEck's digital assets research head Matthew Sigel, Bitcoin faces a legitimate risk due to increasingly powerful computing systems that could break existing cryptography.
Sigel acknowledged the concern but noted that the Bitcoin community has recognized the issue and is working on potential solutions. He stated, 'Yes, it’s a risk,' and emphasized that developers and researchers are exploring ways to upgrade the network to make it quantum-resistant.
However, Sigel also pointed out that major upgrades to the Bitcoin network can be slow due to its decentralized governance structure, which lacks a CEO directing developers. He noted that technological paths do exist to address this issue.
