Bitcoin's Quantum Risk: Can It Stay Ahead?
Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has expressed concerns that Bitcoin may lose its top ranking as the largest cryptocurrency if it fails to adapt to quantum computing threats. According to Hoskinson, Bitcoin's slow and conservative upgrade process makes it difficult for the network to respond quickly to emerging technical challenges.
Hoskinson compared Bitcoin to a 'spiritual successor' of Cardano, which has a more flexible governance model that allows for faster upgrades. He stated that Cardano is preparing for its largest upgrade so far, which will make the network 60 times faster.
Bitcoin's ability to coordinate upgrades and adapt to new threats could be crucial in determining whether it remains the leading cryptocurrency. Hoskinson warned that if Bitcoin's governance becomes a hindrance to progress, it may not be able to maintain its position at the top.
