Bitcoin's Quantum Risk Takes a Significant Hit with 79% Cost Reduction
Bitcoin's price has been trading near $84,000, down by a significant 3.5% on the day.
The more interesting number this week, however, is not Bitcoin's price prediction but rather its cost to build a quantum-resistant transaction.
A team of developers and researchers from StarkWare, Yukon Research, and Eigen Labs has made significant progress in reducing the cost of constructing a post-quantum-secure Bitcoin transaction.
According to the report, they invited developers, researchers, and AI agents to shrink the GPU-hours needed to construct the transaction as part of the Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Optimization Challenge.
The team's efforts have resulted in an estimated $67 cost for building a quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction, down from $320 when StarkWare mined the first one on mainnet back in August, a 79% reduction achieved in just one week of open optimization work.
