Bitcoin's Quantum Shield: Researchers Unveil Post-Quantum Lightning Network Protocol
Researchers at East Texas A&M University have developed a quantum-resistant protocol for Bitcoin's Lightning Network, addressing a long-standing vulnerability in the cryptocurrency industry. The Post-Quantum Lightning Network (PQLN) is designed to run alongside existing Lightning nodes without modifying Bitcoin's underlying code.
The PQLN operates as a parallel security layer within the Lightning Network, enabling faster and cheaper Bitcoin transactions while protecting against potential quantum attacks. This development comes as Bitcoin's price shows renewed strength, with a 15% increase over the past week and a 13% gain over the past month, bringing it to a key technical level around $87,000.
The PQLN protocol aims to insulate Lightning Network payments from possible future quantum attacks, stopping malicious actors from recording transactions today and decrypting them when quantum computing technology matures. This initiative represents a significant stride for Bitcoin within the landscape of large cryptocurrency assets addressing quantum security concerns.
