Bitcoin's Relationship with AI Chip Results: A Nuanced Perspective
Nvidia's and Broadcom's AI chip results have been closely watched by investors, but does their impact extend to Bitcoin? The answer may be more nuanced than expected.
A recent analysis of past performances shows that while these companies' stock prices react significantly to earnings announcements, the impact on Bitcoin is relatively minimal. In fact, it appears that Bitcoin's price movement is more closely tied to broader market trends, such as those reflected in the Nasdaq Composite index.
The study looked at two specific instances: Nvidia's 8.74% gain and Broadcom's 12.59% loss following their respective earnings announcements in June and August 2026. During these periods, Bitcoin's price movements closely tracked the broader market, gaining 1.56% when the Nasdaq rose 1.57%, and falling a third of a percent when the index fell a tenth of a percent.
The correlation between Bitcoin and the Nasdaq Composite is not fixed and can vary depending on the time frame considered. However, across different windows, including the last 30 sessions, last 60 sessions, and year-to-date, the relationship between Bitcoin and the index beats its relationship with either individual chip name.
